Michigan Primary Care Association and partners are pleased to announce a call for presentations for the Second Annual Michigan LGBTQ Health Summit. We invite you to submit an application to share information on the following:cultural competency, sensitivity training, caring for LGBTQ youth or elderly, utilizing health information technology to improve outcomes for LGBTQ patients, addressing social determinants and disparities that impact LGBTQ persons, coordination of services across disciplines internally or with external partners, or other innovative approaches to providing coordinated care to LGBTQ patients.
Conference Attendees: The conference will include topics relevant to all health professionals with an emphasis on primary care, infectious disease, and behavioral health providers; as well as executives, public health specialists, and community based organizations. Any organization is welcome to attend and a comprehensive agenda is currently being developed.
General Sessions: General Sessions will inform, inspire, and have relevance to all health professionals.
Breakout Session topics of interest: Presentations focused on creating welcoming environments, cultural competency, sensitivity, and inclusion in policies and procedures; programs highlighting considerations in transgender specific care, needs of LGBTQ youth, or elderly; organizational initiatives including use of data collection and employment of HIT to improve LGBTQ care, and interventions to address social determinants or health disparities disproportionately impacting LGBTQ persons.
Submission of Presentation Application
The information provided in the application will help the planning committee assure appropriateness of content and to develop program descriptions and learning objectives. Description and learning objectives may be edited and formatted for inclusion in program brochure. Timely responses to a request for all materials will be required as we will be submitting for Provider CEs, as well the potential for other continuing education credits.
The conference planning committee is looking for presentations to document specific strategies and/or share tools that may be applicable within other communities or health care organizations.
Criteria for evaluating the presentations will include:
(1) the topic relevance to caring for LGBTQ patients
(2) support of increasing access and quality of care
(3) ability to replicate or use information/design in health centers and other safety net provider settings
(4) inclusion of Michigan specific information
Format for Presentation
The presentation should be prepared for a 60-minute session and allow time for question and answer. MPCA will provide audiovisual equipment and other supplies as needed.
